FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES AND PATHWAYS POST 16
A qualification in Sociology will provide you with many key skills that are invaluable in life. These include: the development of analytical and communication skills; constructing reasoned arguments; making substantiated judgements and drawing reasoned conclusions; investigating facts and making deductions; developing opinions and new ideas on social issues; and planning, research and negotiation. All of these skills are relevant to a variety of careers. For example, many Sociologists go into Social Work, community projects, charity work, Welfare Advising and other areas of Social Services. Other careers include Civil Service, Prison Officers, Journalists, Police and Teaching.
The GCSE Sociology course provides smooth progression from GCSE to A Level Sociology and is useful as a stepping stone into A Level Criminology or Psychology.
Sociology is about your life and the world around you. It is a subject that you will have experience of and one that will help you understand many aspects of your future. You can bring your own life events and ideas into the classroom in a way you might not be able to with other subjects.
