KEY STAGE 3 CURRICULUM OUTLINE

Year 9 complete a 12-week (approx.) Psychology course. They will cover human perception, psychological problems (focus on schizophrenia), and sleep/dreaming. Each topic is assessed at the end to track progress. Pupils can select psychology as a KS4 option whether they have completed this short course or not.

KEY STAGE 4 CURRICULUM OUTLINE

We are currently teaching Years 10 and 11 the GCSE from Edexcel. All information is given to students at the beginning of each component. We look at units based on human development, memory, psychological problems, neuropsychology, social influences, criminal psychology, sleep/dreaming, and research methodology in psychology.

100% of the assessment in by exams at the end of Year 11, there are 2 exam papers with a mixture of multiple choice, short-answer, and long-answer questions.

FUTURE PROGRESSION ROUTES AND CAREERS

The GCSE will prepare pupils well for progression onto ‘A’ Level Psychology as well as applied psychology courses, pupils will also have gained skills supporting progression to subjects such as History, Sociology, Geography and English courses.

The skills gained by studying psychology are not only useful in the field of psychology, but are also valued by a range of employers, such as in the fields of public services, business & marketing, education, and health & social care.
